When I moved to Las Vegas, in 1972, the north end of the strip was the place to be. We had the Riviera - and the Desert Inn ( now WYNN and ENCORE), while the south end was home to a variety of motels - the Hacienda (now the site of Mandalay Bay). Things have changed over the years, but with Turnberry's new Fontainebleau Hotel located across from Circus Circus - and SKY LAS VEGAS CONDOS ON THE STRIP, it looked like the place to be was about to move north again. Then the project went into bankruptcy.
Yesterday's Las Vegas Sun had an article that said Carl Icahn has bid for the project. At present - it sits about 50 stories high - and is faced with blue glass - and is a commanding yet unfinished presence.

Let's hope this new resort gets to be completed and new life with be breathed into the north end of the Las Vegas strip, making the luxury strip area high rise condos at SKY, TRUMP LAS VEGAS, Turnberry Towers and Turnberry Place so attractive at these price levels of 2010.
